Randolph AFB Airshow 2009
November 7-8, 2009
Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX

The Alamo Liaison Squadron was pleased to participate in the annual San Antonio military airshow held at Randolph Air Force Base this year. We had a good turnout and lots of children and their parents had the opportunity to view the aircraft, some even sitting in the L-5's cockpit. We also distributed several hundred flyers with information about liaison aircraft.

WW II Veterans Tribute
December 4-8, 2008
Fredericksburg, TX

The Alamo Liaison Squadron was invited to display our aircraft in Fredericksburg. The National Museum of the Pacific War hosted the official mainland ceremonies commemorating the Pearl Harbor anniversary. This was a magnificent gathering of aircraft - all brought in by private owners - and our squadron members at their own expense to honor the Pearl Harbor veterans.

Airfest 2008
November 2008
Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX

The squadron brought the Stinson L-5 to this event and had a wonderful time telling folks about the L-birds and their service during WWII. We also had fun watching the other pilots "wow" the crowd.

Mediterranean Assault 2007
Cannon Field , San Antonio, TX

December 7-8, 2007 - Mediterranean Assault
Cannon Field

Mediterranean Assault was a field day/ reenactment with members of Austin-based Company G and the Alamo Liaison Squadron turning Cannon Field into a World War 2 battleground to commemorate Pearl Harbor, recreate skirmishes fought by Texas soldiers, honor wartime survivors of the 36th “Texas” Infantry Division, demonstrate the use of Liaison Aircraft and, in the process, provide Central and South Texas students and families with an up-close, meaningful educational activity.

Texas Military Forces Museum Living History Detachment (also known as "Company G") represents an element of the 36th Division's 141st Infantry Regiment. G Co. numbers about 75 volunteer living historians and includes members who: developed the "Island Assault" presentations for the National Museum of the Pacific War (formerly the Admiral Nimitz Center) in Fredericksburg; spearheaded the international effort in 2004 to recreate the Iwo Jima battle; and now staff the Close Assault program at Camp Mabry, the Texas National Guard Headquarters in Austin. This event was the first cooperation between the two groups and was the first of its type in San Antonio.

Company G performed a version of their "Close Assault 1944" program during the event, with active participation by members of the Alamo Liaison Squadron - who hosted the event and demonstrated L-Bird operations.

Mediterranean Assault was also the debut for the reprint of Box Seat Over Hell.

2006 Airfest - November
Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX

The Alamo Liaison Squadron flew the L-2M N87787 a few miles from home for the annual airshow that the local San Antonio Air Force bases host. We were placed near show-center and enjoyed talking with the crowd and explaining the history of the Liaison Aircraft.

2006 Airsho - October
Midland, TX

One of the ALS members took L-2M N87787 to the annual Airsho - hosted by the Commemorative Air Force in Midland, TX. The flight to Midland took approximately five hours with two fuel stops. The aircraft and pilot arrived safely and enjoyed the opportunity to represent the Alamo Liaison Squadron at one of the premier airshows around. In 2006 the CAF started a new tradition of having the lighter aircraft fly a "Dawn Patrol" over the city. Below are some sample photos from the event. Click on photo for larger version.
